South Edmonton Church of Christ
Evangelist Posting
The South Edmonton Church of Christ is looking to hire an Evangelist. The
posting will close on June 30,2011.
Applicants must have proven to be faithful and conscientious men. The applicant should have expertise in evangelism and leadership. He should be a man of integrity, a faithful member (in service and attendance)of a local congregation of the Church of Christ. He must share the Biblical principles and ideals of the South
Edmonton Church of Christ. He should have maintained a blameless reputation among the brotherhood and in the community in which he lives. The applicant should have a missionary heart that is indicated by their actions in evangelism. He should also manage his own household well by having a stable home life and secure personal finances.
The applicant should exemplify the qualities and characteristics in his life the spiritual intent of Titus 1:7-9 and 1 Timothy 3:2b-3, 6-7, 8b-9 where it is stated, “... must not be overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain. Rather, he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined. He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it”. (Titus 1:7-9). “... should be above reproach, temperate, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money”. He must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited and fall under the same judgment as the devil. He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil’s trap. He must be worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine, and not pursuing dishonest gain. He must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience”. (1 Timothy 3:2b-3, 6-7, 8b-9)
In addition, the applicant should accept the verbally inspired nature of the Bible, that is, believing that both the Old and the New Testaments were inspired by the Holy Spirit to the very words used in the original autographs, but that the church today lives and acts solely under the commands found in the New Testament. He should believe deeply in the concept of the restoration of the New Testament ideal throughout the world and should be active in urging all people to return to the New Testament and be what Christ, the apostles, and other inspired men of the New Testament have taught us to be. The applicant should also have a strong personal relationship with God built on his private prayer life and continuous Bible study time, who is self-motivated and works conscientiously without immediate supervision.
The applicant should respect and promote the New Testament church and must not, in any way, sanction or lend credence to denominationalism, that is, religious bodies created by man. He should support and promote male spiritual leadership where women are not in leadership roles over men, taking authority over men, or
teaching men in the church. He should be a defender of the faith, urging others to seek salvation as clearly taught in the Scriptures. He should emphasize that baptism is for the forgiveness of sins and for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit so that it places the convert in the spiritual body of Christ, the New Testament church. He should promote the worship of God according to the New Testament pattern and must not encourage human innovation regarding that worship—such as instrumental music in worship or practices that draw attention to individuals
(praise teams, clapping, raising and waving hands) —in any way. He must be committed to advocating the universal Christianity of the New Testament with its eternal principles that may be appropriately applied in any culture.
He should be involved in soul-winning of some type locally and be thinking through new methods of evangelism. He should be able to lead the members of the SECC congregation to make good use of their time in fulfilling their roles of service in connection with SECC.
